Ramadan For Me
Ramadan, the ninth month of the islamic calendar is worldwide recognized by Muslims as a month of peace, self discipline and worship, fasting from sunrise to sunset, disciplining themselves to not only not eat or drink(Yes, even water), but also avoiding conflict, bad words and other negative actions while focusing on their connection with God. This unique month may seem especially interesting to curious children, and we wanted to see their perspective from their eyes. In our project, “R4Me”(Ramadan For Me), young minds showed us what Ramadan means for them through their arts and crafts, technology, and theater performance projects. This heartfelt event brought us closer to each other, while helping us understand our children more.
Our children showcased various different projects such as traditional Turkish games, robotics, theatre, coding, arts and crafts and so many more amazing projects, all more beautiful than each other. Through their collective efforts, we were able to have this amazing fair, bringing us together.
The highlights didn’t end there as fundraisers opened, selling delicious baked goods.
This event helped our children unleash their artistic side, expressing themselves individually, nurturing their connection to their community and faith. It was also an opportunity for everyone to learn about, and be inspired by the true spirit of Ramadan.
The photos show the event setting, the kids presenting their projects and the award ceremony.
Kids come together at the end of Ramadan and showcase what Ramadan means to them through their handmade projects. The projects varied from arts and crafts to theatrical performances and computer games on scratch!
This program has been going on for 5 years, it started in the San Jose Area and is now being done annually in both SJ and Sacramento communities. Every year tens of projects come and give joy to our festival.
